A perienial aquatic fern with most leaves floating on the surface forming dense mats of growth. Leaves are oval shaped and covered with waxy hairs making their upper surface water repellent. When salvinina leaves are crowded the flat oval shaped leaves become bunched up, oblong in shape and larger.
