Tree to 25 m with rounded crown. Fast growing. Young branches bright green, older branches with dark rough or smooth grey bark. Numerous long, straight, shiny, white, dark-tipped spines up to 25 cm long and 1 cm diameter, in v-shaped pairs. Leaves bipinnate, 1–5 cm long axis, leaflets 3.5-8 mm by 1-2.5 mm. Flowers in summer. Deep golden yellow balls up to 12 mm diameter, in clusters of a few to over 20.
