Album: State Prohibited Weeds - Horstails
Primitive perennial, spore-bearing plants with creeping roots, favouring wet places. Stems similar in appearance to Allocasuarina (sheoak) with a series of numerous jointed, hollow segments with rings of very small leaves at the nodes. Some species branch repeatedly at the nodes giving the plant a feathery appearance. Spores borne in elongate or rounded cones at the ends of stems. Not known in the wild in Victoria . Has been sold in the past.
It is illegal to buy, sell, possess for sale, display, plant, propagate, deposit onto land, bring into or transport around Victoria a noxious weed, seeds of a noxious weed, or any part of the plant capable of growing. The Department of Primary Industries is responsible for the control and eradication of all State prohibited weeds.
Any person who believes they have located the sale or an infestation of State prohibited weeds regardless of the area, should notify DPI Weed Alert Contact Officer (telephone 136 186). Please do not attempt to control or dispose of this weed yourself, or communicate with any person suspected of displaying, planting, propagating or selling these species.
